Community Services Programs
Child Care Broker Programs funded by the TN Dept. of Human Services, the program assists qualifying parents with child care expenses in all 14 counties. UCHRA assists parents by educating them about different types of child care and assists them in locating quality child care. Child Care Development Funds for low income working parents and teen parents under age 19 and enrolled in high school. Eligibility determined by UCHRA, the broker agency. Elderly Nutrition - provides persons age 60 and over nutritious noon meals, either in group settings or in their homes; strives to improve the quality of life for the elderly of the region by providing sound nutrition for a major portion of the week. Funded by the TN Commission on Aging, the Upper Cumberland Development District Area Agency on Aging, local governments, churches, individuals, United Way, and the TN Department of Human Services. Serves all 14 counties. Emergency Services Program - provides assistance to eligible households in the service counties in the form of food, shelter, energy, prescribed drugs, and homeless prevention. Funded by the TN Department of Human Services, Emergency Food & Shelter Program, Community Services Block Grant, Federal Emergency Management. Serves Cumberland, Fentress, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, and White Counties. Homemaker Aide Program & Elderly Chore Service - helps elderly, handicapped and protective service clients remain in their homes rather than seek alternative care in nursing and foster homes. Services include light housekeeping, errands, cooking, and counseling for families as required for protective service clients. Funded by the TN Department of Human Services, TN Commission on Aging, Upper Cumberland Development District Area Agency on Aging, and local governments. Serves all 14 counties. Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) - provides assistance in meeting energy bills for low-income families (regular assistance) and families who have either exhausted their fuel supply or have notice of shut-off (emergency assistance). Serves Cannon, Cumberland, DeKaIb, Fentress, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Van Buren, Warren, and White Counties. Funded by the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Social Service Block Grant for parents in secondary training, for working parents, and/or for parents having children with developmental delays. Eligibility determined by UCHRA, the broker agency. Families First Child Care for AFDC recipients who comply with a Personal Responsibility Plan. Eligibility determined by the TN Dept. of Human Services. Transitional Families First for former AFDC recipients who have lost their entitlement and are working or attending school and who meet income guidelines. Eligibility determined by both the TN Dept. of Human Services and UCHRA. Social Service Block Grant (Custody) for children who are in State custody. Eligibility determined by the TN Dept. of Childrens Services. Social Service Block Grant (Non-Custody) for foster children. Eligibility determined by the TN Dept. of Childrens Services. Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides basic insulation and weatherization measures for low-income households. Funded by the TN Department of Human Services.
